For the past couple of weeks, we have been studying informational texts and finding main ideas and supporting details. So far, we've worked with science texts and social studies texts, and this week we'll be working with technical texts (cookbooks, how-to books, math books, etc.). We'll keep doing an in-depth study of these three types of informational texts throughout the remainder of the term.

I am currently in need of volunteers who can come consistently (i.e. the same day/time each week) and would like to work with small groups of students on phonics and/or word analysis skills. Each time you come, I will provide you with materials and a lesson plan for that day’s activity.
Here are the days/times that I need help with this:
· 10:45-11:45 Wednesday (5th Grade)
· 12:15-1:15 Wednesday (3rd Grade)
· 2:00-3:00 Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (4th Grade)
If you are available to help during any of these times on a consistent basis, please let me know!
Thank you in advance for your help!

I can't believe it's October already!
Here's an update of what we've been doing in reading:
The past two weeks, we've been learning about finding themes in literature. This can be a tricky concept, so it can be helpful to have your students practice this at home with the books they're reading there.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have! Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Quail Run at 801-785-9300.

Last week, we studied plot. Your fourth grader can tell you about conflicts and resolutions they read about, as well as ones they've seen in their own lives. Ask them to tell you what they've written in your "My Life is a Story" Journal.
This week, we're studying setting. We've learned the ASL signs for "when" and "where," and we've been talking about how setting affects a story. Ask your student about the skits we did this week!
Also, don't forget the upcoming school LUAU on September 10 from from 5:00-8:00. It will be a wonderful evening of friends, food, and entertainment! Buy your tickets now!
